I’ve been a fan of the band pull-apart exercise and have used it with my clients and athletes for years. Usually I’ll use it as part of the warm-up to teach clients how to retract their shoulders blades and get them prepared to do some upper body work. However, I discovered a way to make this exercise even better using the NT Loop.

I call these 3-point pull-aparts because I added 2 new movements to the traditional exercise to get a new scapular sequence. First, I use the NT Loop wrapped around the arms in front of the body to perform some retractions. Second, I do some pull-aparts with one arm in the shortened range and the other in the lengthened range. This also helps create stability on one side while the other is retracting. Finally, I do a set of the standard pull-apart to finish the series.

As you can see in the video above, this simple series puts a nice twist on the classic exercise so you can extract a little more from it. Hope you enjoy this brand new move.
